To administer your PORTALPRODIGY site you must be running
Microsoft Windows with IE (Internet Explorer) version 6.0 or greater and you
must have Cookies enabled. Note that
users may access the public portion of your Website using any type of Web
browser, running on any type of operating system, running on any type of
computer system; however, at the time of this writing, PORTALPRODIGY has only
been rigorously tested with Internet Explorer versions 5.0, 5.5, 6.0., and 7.0.
The first time you attempt to upload an HTML file to
PORTALPRODIGY from any computer system that you have not uploaded to
PORTALPRODIGY before, PORTALPRODIGY will prompt you to install a file uploading
component manufactured either by Software Artisan or Brolin. If you have the Microsoft version of Java
loaded on your computer it will load the file uploading component manufactured
by Software Artisan. If you have the Sun
version of Java loaded on your computer it will load the file uploading
component manufactured by Brolin. Today,
most computer systems have the Sun version of Java and as a consequence will
use the Brolin File Upload Component.
The component is either loaded as an Active-X component or Java Applet on
your computer system. It enables the
transfer of an HTML file along with its resource folder over HTTP. Why is this
necessary? Because HTML files typically
contain resources such as images, CSS, java scripts, and other files that are
stored external to the HTML files and they need to be uploaded along with the
HTML file. The file upload applet
performs this task. This is the only
component other than a Cookie that PORTALPRODIGY will load onto your
system. All other components of the
PORTALPRODIGY system run on the PORTALPRODIGY server.
